Milkweed

The most important host plant for Monarch butterflies is Common Milkweed. Monarchs lay their eggs on it and it also becomes a food source for the caterpillars. We are trying to cultivate more of this in the garden. A flat of common milkweed was purchased from the Monarch Gardener, Katie Banks Hone, last year and planted in the garden. We are planning on getting more plants to add and have also seen a bunch of milkweed emerging from the ground already!
